Have you ever heard of the Northern Lights?
This is a phenomenon that happens in the northern hemisphere of our planet. I know it is something on my bucket list to go and see someday. 🚗
One way I have learned to help keep kids engaged and excited about reading 📔 is by using reading stories that have interesting topics like the Northern Lights.
In my online classroom I use stories like this with my students to help them with reading practice by having them read outloud to me in class.
Then there are 5 comprehension questions that go with the story to help students learn how to go back into the reading passage and find the answer to the questions. We complete these together in class.
This activity also helps spark more conversation between students and the teacher giving an interesting topic to talk about.
There is also an essay question(s) included at the end for students to use to write a short 1-2 paragraph essay about the story they just read. ✍️
Sometimes their questions are just about summarizing the story, but other times the questions can be personal or an opinion. This gives a good variety for students to practice different types of writing.
I would like to offer this lesson about the Northern light to you for FREE. All you need to do is sign up on my email list, and you will have it delivered right to your email box immediately.
